Why do you need a competency framework?

Competency frameworks articulate the skills and behaviours your business needs to deliver your goals. It's as simple as that. As such, a competency framework is a critical component of your HR strategy and underpins decision making in recruitment, development and performance management.

What are competencies?

A competency is a characteristic which delivers outstanding performance in a given job, role or function.

A competency framework reflects the requirements of a group of roles or all of the roles in your business. However, we don't just produce a list of competencies. When we develop competency frameworks we focus on a small number of behaviours that deliver greatest value, usually economic value. We look at the interrelationships between the competencies and make sure they deliver overall performance. For instance, having lots of team based behaviours for a leadership role will not deliver the best performance in that job.
