Even McKinsey sees the value in competencies

It started with David McClelland doing work with foreign attaches posted overseas in the early 70s. He found traditional pen and paper tests did not predict which public servants would be successful in the job.  Something else did – and hence the competency movement was born.

For years we have been working with competencies – using them to identify high performers, select the best fit for a particular role or as a means to identify training needs at the individual, team and organisational level. They are still useful to companies today. Thank you David McClelland.
